Butte College Television (BCTV)

Introduction

Most people may not realize that Butte College operates four television channels as authorized by the FCC to serve the Butte and Glenn County areas with a form of broadcasting called "Instructional Television Fixed Service."

BCTV primarily supports Distance Learning by providing specialized educational programming to several cable systems, and also to our two remote learning centers (Chico and Orland).

Telecourses can be taken for college credit on television. BCTV has been around for quite awhile, and is an outreach of Butte College and the Center for Media and Distance Learning Technology.

BCTV also offers Public Access programming to those customers in the Comcast Cable areas. Some pretty interesting stuff has been aired in the past, and there is no telling what will air in the future. We are the designated broadcast source for most public access television programming for cable in this area. Interested in airing a program? Call (530) 895-2862 for details.

Besides offering programing to the community, BCTV also beams selected course material to local high schools such as Chico and Gridley High schools. Butte College Television is mostly student run, perhaps the largest student run broadcast facility in this area. Students employed by Operations are required to perform all broadcast functions, video switching, and directing live ITVF classes.
